Am I serious about helping handmade & creative business owners learn bookkeeping? Hell YES!

Am I serious about helping handmade business owners learn bookkeeping?

Am I serious about helping handmade business owners learn to handle their bookkeeping? Believe it or not, but last week I was asked this question in an Instagram direct message.

The question came from someone who has one of those private Instagram accounts. The question was asked because they felt I wasn’t present enough on Instagram.

Well, whoever you are – here’s my response to your question…

Am I serious about helping handmade business owners learn bookkeeping?

Of course I am serious. How dare you!

Just because I’m not on Instagram 24/7 posting multiple times a day about bookkeeping and other behind the scenes stuff involved in running a handmade or creative business – doesn’t mean that I’m NOT serious!

It’s taken me a week to calm down enough to write something that didn’t contain a LOT of foul, four-letter words.

On Instagram, I was asked - Am I serious about helping handmade business owners learn to handle their bookkeeping?
I spend the majority of my Social Media time in my Facebook group.  I’m there every day Monday through Friday and sometimes on the weekend.  Every Tuesday I do a live chat/training session, that lasts anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, on different topics.   The last 2 weeks the Live sessions have focused on How to Design a Pattern template in Google Sheets, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Publisher.

Honestly, I was SO angry over this question.

Yes, I realize that I don’t spend a ton of time on Instagram.  But I do put in an appearance and I do post 3 or 4 times a week.  I also know that bookkeeping is the least favorite thing for just about every handmade or creative business owner.  So, I try NOT to slam it in their face every day, multiple times a day in multiple places.

Maybe some of you think that YarnyBookkeeper.com is the ONLY thing I do. It’s not.

My husband, Ben, and I run a software business (Sunburst Software Solutions, Inc.) that focuses on contractors using QuickBooks. There I work a full week and:

  • maintain the website
  • provide one-on-one training
  • write ALL of the user manuals & documentation
  • answer a majority of the sales and support calls
  • process the orders

It doesn’t leave me a whole lot of time to focus on YarnyBookkeeper.com – but I still manage to put in 10-20 hours a week for this site, and plan to right up until the time I retire from Sunburst. Once I retire, I’ll have more time for this site.

So, YES I’m very serious about helping handmade and creative business owners learn to handle their bookkeeping.

If I wasn’t, I still wouldn’t be here. And this is as “nice” as I can be about this question.
